3 Ways You Can Escape Sunday Scaries
‘Sunday Scaries’ can start to creep up on you anytime from around 5pm on a Sunday.
You might be innocently resting on your sofa indulging in ‘Four in a bed’ or ‘A Place in the Sun’ when anxious thoughts about what you might have to face at work start to creep in. Otherwise known as ‘Sunday Scaries’.
If you find your mood starting to dip on a Sunday at around 5pm, rest assured you’re not alone.
According to a LinkedIn survey, 80 percent of professionals say they experience the Sunday Scaries, with over 90 percent of Millennials and Gen Z reporting they feel it.
I’ve been there too
I know all too well what it feels like to be sad about the weekend being over while Monday is staggering towards you like a herd of zombies from ‘The Walking Dead’.
It really isn’t ok. When I’ve let things get out of control in the past it’s affected lots of other way more important things, like friendships, relationships my health.
I you’re looking around, with no where to run and escape, I have good news for you. Stay here with me, I can help.
Here are 3 ways you can escape Sunday Scaries:
1: Beat them on Friday
I’ll let you in to a secret… You can beat them in less than 5 minutes on a Friday.
From my experience, one of the reasons Sunday Scaries can take a hold so easily is because you don’t know where you’ll start, or what could be lying in wait for you on Monday.
You can beat this uncertainty easily, by spending 5 minutes writing a short to-do-list before you finish work for the week. I always use a post it note to stop the list getting too long.
This list will mean you avoid speculating and wondering about what’s in store for you. You can march straight past the ghouls and get started right away. You’re morning tea break will arrive before you know it.
2: Give your mind some space
Sometimes you can get stuck in a cycle and no one wants “Sunday Scaries” to ruin the rest of their weekend.
I get stuck in my own head ALL the time, things end up totally out of proportion and sleeping becomes the most impossible task.
This exercise only takes a few minutes a and will help stave off feelings of anxiety and overwhelm.
4 minute exercise you can try from Headspace.
It really does work, I’ve tried it myself.
3: Take action
If you still can’t escape those feelings of dread on a Sunday it’s time to take action.
Imagine yourself in 6 months time, you’ve got a new job and your happy, Sundays are spend blissfully unaware of the week ahead and you enjoy your work.
I can guarantee, you’ll look back on the situation you’re in today and wonder why you stayed in the wrong job for so long.
