Recruitment Agency Registration
Registration
Sitting in front of another computer in a room about 2 meters square in size I was about to do a typing speed and accuracy test. This was part of the registration process at the second agency I went to. I had no idea that the prospect of this would fill me with such a sense of panic and dread. What if I failed it? Or was too slow?
No more blue apron please
I met my recruitment consultant about 30 mins later. He walked into reception looking very professional in his suit and I politely; and a bit nervously said hello and shook his hand. We talked about my experience, what I wanted to do and my salary expectations (at this stage anything more than my hourly rate at Asda was a bonus and I didn’t really care what the job was as long as I didn’t have to wear a blue apron), he said he would keep a look out for me and if something suitable came up he would call. There was no mention of my results from my speed and accuracy test which I was a little relieved about.
Important news
Everything happened quickly after that, I was booked in for an interview with a company on the following Tuesday, accepted the job offer by the end of the week and confirmed my start date. On Sunday afternoon I went to visit my parents to tell them my important news. I remember sitting on the sofa excitedly telling them that I had a new job that started in two weeks. Yes, it was an hour and a half away in the ‘big city’ and no, I didn’t have anywhere to live yet.
My new dream job
I am not sure if my recruitment consultant realised this at the time, but my new job was truly life changing. It was my first ‘real job,’ it meant I could move to the ‘big city’, and I was once again full to the brim with hope and optimism for my future, I will never have to wear that blue apron again. I remember thinking what an amazing job it must be being a recruitment consultant, helping people change their lives in the same way he had helped me. I really hoped that I could do that job one day, when I had enough experience, it would be a dream come true…
